AVG Energia

You're in Business AVG Energy

The AVG Energy Department works on Power Generation thur Small Hydropower Stations (called PCH). The Group has partnership with international players to develop new projects and technologies.

The PCH Bicas, the Group first investment in this sector, has the capacity 1.8MW, is the first Station in operation. The PCH Barras, with capacity of 0.9MW, is in implementation phase and shall be commissioned in beginin of 2014.

With all projects under development and with strategic partnerships, the AVG Group shall reach a total generation capacity of 20MW in the next 05 years, with projected earnings of R$ 17millions/ year.

What is a PCH

According to Resolution No. 394 - 12/04/1998 ANEEL-National Agency of Electric Energy, SHP (Small Hydro Power Plant) is all small hydroelectric plant whose capacity is greater than 1 MW and less than 30 MW. Furthermore, the reservoir must be less than 3 km ².

A typical PCH normally operates at a stretch of water, the shell does not allow the adjustment of water flow. With that in times of drought flow available may be less than the capacity of the turbines, causing idleness.

In other situations, the flow rates are greater than the swallowing capacity of the machine, allowing the passage of water through verterdor.

Therefore, the cost of electricity generated by SHP is greater than that of a large hydroelectric power plant (HPP-Hydroelectric Power), where the reservoir can be operated in order to reduce idleness or waste water.

However the PCH are facilities that result in lower environmental impacts and lend themselves to decentralized generation.

This type of dam is mainly used in small rivers and medium-sized companies that have significant gaps in its path, generating enough hydraulic power to move the turbines.

PCH BICAS

First named Julio Mourão Guimarães plant, was inaugurated in the second half of 1942, the plant generated power for the cities of Mariana and Mariana Pass, and mining companies installed there.

Gualaxo is located in River North district of Camargo, Mariana County / MG.

Today with 70 years of operation, and its civil structures are in good condition and safe and electromechanical equipment were recently updated (start-up with AVG Management Group in January 2005).

Project

  • PCH Barras

Located on the Barra Farm, the city of New Age / MG, the structures of the plant are located on the right bank of the Correntes river at approximately 1000 m upstream of the bar in the Prata River. This PCH will become operational in 2014.
